Part 2: People just want “way too much” these days. Want to be debt free? Live “way below your means”. I live in a 700 square foot condo with my wife. Yeh…its small…but I OWN IT free and clear. I drive a 15 year old car that I take good care of, is it an unstylish frumpy car? YES, but I OWN IT free and clear. OH yes…by the way…if you can’t afford to have children…DONT HAVE ANY. Life is not always fun, but IT IS REAL and dont expect others to bail you out.

Certainly with “some” exceptions, most debt ridden people caused their own hell. I have had panic attacks since I was 13 years old ( i am 55 now) so I have had to be very financially conservative with my money as I never really knew when or if I would become too disabled to work. Well I a have been debt free since I was 50 years old… Paid off condo, paid off car, and about $100,000 in the bank. My parents who are in their 80s are right….people just want “too much” today.

You can blame someone else for why you’re in debt or take responsibility for your own actions - I know it’s more fun to just blame everyone else and act like a victim, but c’mon, time to grow up and realize you ultimately decide what you do, not the rich or the gov’t or whatever.

Very true. I don’t know about where you are, but here in Japan we can opt to have the entire credit card balance debited directly from our bank account every month. It only carries over to the next month if you have insufficient funds. I just pay for my internet, cable, and mobile by credit card so the amount deducted is never a surprise

but you don’t build a credit rating with debit cards. the best advice is to get one card and pay off the balance every month to establish a credit history. it’s hard to get a mortgage if you don’t have a credit score.

Your in debt because the rich want you to be, they targeted you with adverts, credit card invitations relentless ‘offers, deals, sales and options and you just strolled right on out there and bought it, well atleast you can show it off to your neighbours. Good luck with that.

That’s great advice. It’s really not that hard to live without any credit cards since debit cards work just like them and don’t require you to take on any debt to use them.

I’ve never really understood the point of this. It just wastes everyone’s time, including your own. Sure, the company has to pay for the shipping, but at the volume of mailings they do, it doesn’t matter one bit.
